Winestate awards 2008 Crabtree Reisling with Riesling Wine of the Year 2008
The Winestate Magazine’s Wine of the Year Awards has bestowed its highest accolade in the Riesling category upon new release Crabtree Watervale Riesling 2008 naming it, Riesling Wine of the Year.
This is the first vintage for the new team who took over the helm from Robert Crabtree in 2007. Owners Rasa and Richard Woods enlisted the winemaking expertise of the multi-award winning Clare Valley Winemaker, Kerri Thomson who along with Cellar Manager, Brendan Pudney, has produced a Watervale Riesling of striking exceptionality.
“We’re honoured to receive this recognition for our 2008 Riesling. It’s our flagship wine and the team have poured devotion and hard work into making it the best it can be. We’re very fortunate to have a very special Riesling site located in the heart of Watervale” said Richard Woods.
The Crabtree Watervale Riesling 2008 is a wine made from the careful blending of individual batches created from 13 separate blocks. The blocks were picked and fermented separately allowing the winemaking team to become familiar with the unique characters and specific flavour profiles of each. The Crabtree Watervale Riesling is the result of the very best of these blocks brought together for perfect finesse, consistency and intense flavour. The wine exhibits the distinct terroir of Crabtree Estate and the Watervale district of the Clare Valley with its classic floral notes, palate of layered citrus and a long, crisp and dry finish.
Winestate’s Wine of the Year Awards has long been held in high regard. The 300 wines sampled in the finals are those which have rated highly by Winestate judges during tastings of more than 10,000 wines from Australia and New Zealand over the past year. This year, wines expressing characters of pure regionality were among the most prized wines.
